Our Mission

Tochigi Prefecture is known for its strawberry production which is No. 1 in Japan, in terms of both yield and value, and our leading cultivar ‘Tochiotome’ occupies 30 percent of strawberry cultivation in Japan.

Under such circumstance, The Tochigi Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station Strawberry Research Institute, the only strawberry research institute in Japan, was established in 2008 as a successor of former Tochigi Branch Strawberry Laboratory.

We conduct comprehensive research and development covering everything related to strawberry such as; physiology, breeding, development and evaluation of new cultivation systems, and marketing. We aim for the further development of “Strawberry Kingdom Tochigi" in cooperation with stakeholders.
